YMCA Camp Hanes

Camp Hanes is a 500 acre memory maker! Our Counselor in Training or CIT for short is a co-ed camp for campers who are rising juniors. The CIT program is a two week program that helps to build future job skills overall as well as helping to prepare them for applying to counselors the following summer. CIT's are spread out throughout cabins, staying with campers of younger ages so that they can observe counselors, assist, and learn about what it means to work at camp. The first week they will travel together during the day as a small group doing a mixture of camp activities, leadership growth sessions and helping with behind the scenes work of camp projects. During their second week they will primarily spend time with a cabin getting to put what they learned into practice getting feedback from the counselors they are paired with in addition to feedback from their CIT Leader. The CIT program is the transition year where they make their camp experience about giving back and growing into the role mode they want to be for younger campers.
